What is Hot Stone Massage?

  • Hot stone massage is a unique form of massage that incorporates smooth, heated stones into a massage session. Basalt stones are used, as the minerals in basalt absorb and retain heat the longest of any type of stone.

  • Hot Stone Massage is a deeply soothing, relaxing form of massage. The heat helps tight muscles release.

What Happens During a Hot Stone Massage?

  • Before the treatment begins, it is important to sanitize the stones, and heat them in120 - 130 degrees Fahrenheit water.

  • The first part of the treatment has the therapist place warmed stones on specific locations on the body, as placement stones. Common points are along the spine, under the palms, and between the toes to improve circulation in the body.

  • Next the therapist uses traditional massage strokes while holding a heated stone in their hand. As the stones cool, the therapist replaces it with another.

  • If the client has inflammation or muscle injury, cold stones are often used. A full-body hot stone massage usually takes 1.5 hours to complete.

How Hot Stones Work?

  • There are two ways to use stones in a Hand and Stone Massage. The first way is to use them as placement stones to warm the muscles.

  • This brings the client's attention to the warmed body part, and has a calming effect on their mind. Tension is melted away with the liquid heat sensation from the warmed stones.

  • Hot Stone Massage warms and relaxes the muscles very quickly and easily. This allows massage therapists to access deep tissues in a short amount of time, and with less effort than regular massage.

  • Hot stones add a grounding and balancing effect to your massage. Hot stones give energy to the therapist while relaxing the client.
